Global Sourcing Standard
“THE STANDARD PROVIDES A STABLE AND STEADY STATE PLATFORM FROM WHICH YOU CAN THEN EXPLORE DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES, PARTICULARLY IN AREAS OF TRANSFORMATION. IT ALSO ENABLES YOU TO TAKE MORE RISK BECAUSE YOU CAN COMPETENTLY ASSESS OPPORTUNITIES LIKE THE IMPACT OF NEW AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES.”
The Global Sourcing Standard is a unified view of global industry best practice that organisations on both the buy side and provider side can be accredited to.
Nearly nine years in the making, the Standard has been a significant development towards the GSA’s vision of a unified sourcing industry operating to a single global standard of practice. It started off as a Life Cycle model, evolving into a Corporate Accreditation programme for buy-side companies, and now today is a totally unique global standard that has been critiqued by well over 200 organisations, to which both buyers and providers can be accredited to.
The Standard provides you with a comprehensive end-to-end strategic sourcing knowledge base, but is also underpinned by a full Competencies and Capabilities framework, Social Inclusion Charter, Transparency Principles and an Industry Code of Conduct.
The Standard has not only been proven to save organisation’s £millions annually, it has also been recognised globally as a means of providing exemplar Quality Assurance for clients, customers and other stakeholders including regulatory bodies.
The Standard has been adopted by international outsourcing associations throughout the world, from Russia to China, Poland to India, Latin America to South Africa and everywhere in between. It is governed by a global Standard Advisory Group, which is responsible for providing market intelligence, quality oversight and the ongoing development of the Standard.

The Global Sourcing Standard is a non-prescriptive model designed for sourcing practitioners to validate or to develop their own approaches to sourcing strategy. The Standard also provides those who are impacted by sourcing with an appreciation of what it is and how it works.
The Standard has been developed to be used by sourcing buyers and suppliers.
It also includes references to the particular requirements of the public sector where particular regulatory procurement rules apply.
This document contains a detailed description of the Lifecycle model. It is intended as a reference document rather than a document that will be read from start to finish.
A diagrammatic one-page view of each of the phases of the Standard is provided, followed by detailed explanations of each of the stages within the phase.
The Standard is not intended only to be concerned with outsourcing. Outsourcing is certainly an important sourcing option but it is not the only option. Establishing shared service centres, introducing automation and bringing back outsourced services in-house are all popular options used by organisations throughout the world to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their organisations.
What is common to effective sourcing strategy is that it must remain dynamic, flexible and responsive to change in a world that it changing at an ever increasing rate.
